Episode 101 and 103: Pirate's Life (pt. 1 and 2)

Have you ever thought about just dropping everything, buying a boat, and sailing the Caribbean? That might be a much more realistic possibility than you realize. In these two episodes, I’ll walk you through, step by step, how you could make something like that a reality.

There's something beautifully simple about life at sea. The idea of casting off and sailing the world on your own boat may seem far-fetched, but it's actually well within reach for most of us.

In part one, Episode 101, we focus on the hardware- the boat. I’ll give you a crash course in sailboats, types of boats, and what might be best for you. How big of a boat do you need? Are you planning a circumnavigation or just port-hopping in your home country? What’s a realistic price point for a boat that you could safely take out on the open ocean?

In part two, Episode 103, we focus on knowledge and skills. This is at least as important, maybe even more important, than the boat itself. But where do you start if you have no sailing experience? I’ll lay out a bit of a path for you, beginning with learning the fundamentals of sailing, and gradually acquiring new skills and experience. You’ll quickly get to the point where you’re totally comfortable taking a large 60-foot sailboat out on the open ocean.
