Episode 019: Cave Art for the Modern Home
In this episode, we use traditional methods to make a rawhide out of an antelope skin. We also talk about a whole variety of practical uses for rawhide. I’ll give you enough information to get started, but if you’re really interested in making your own rawhide, I recommend the book “Deerskins into Buckskins” by Matt Richards. This is the same book that I recommended for learning to make your own buckskin.
I decided to do some pictograph-inspired artwork on my rawhide. All of these pictographs came from the Boundary Waters and Quetico area of Minnesota and Ontario. If you’re interested in a guided fishing trip into Lac La Croix, I highly recommend looking up Voyageurs Guide Service out of Crane Lake, MN.

Below are some of the pictures of the project as well as the actual pictographs on the cliffs of Lac La Croix.
